Oil in Sanskrit is “Sneha”, which also means love. The effects of abhyanga massage are similar to the effect of the saturation of love. Abhyanga brings nourishment and love to our largest organ; the skin. The combination of warmed oil infused with plant medicine and touch stimulates neurochemicals found in our nervous system, benefitting us hormonally and psychologically. Herbal oil passes through the minute cellular channels and penetrates deeply into the layers of the bodily tissues and the nervous system, bringing a sense of calm and stability. The oil is applied in long rhythmic strokes and includes massage of the scalp, face, chest, abdomen and side body.
