Saturate your body with love
Oil in Sanskrit is “Sneha”, which also translates to love. The effects of abhyanga massage are similar to the effect of the saturation of love. Abhyanga brings nourishment and love to our largest organ; the skin. The combination of warmed oil infused with plant medicine and touch stimulates neurochemicals found in our nervous system, benefitting us hormonally and psychologically. Herbal oil passes through the minute cellular channels and penetrates deeply into the layers of the bodily tissues and the nervous system, bringing a sense of calm and stability.
The oil is applied in long rhythmic strokes and includes massage of the scalp, face, chest, abdomen and side body. According to Ayurveda it nourishes all tissues, is grounding and relaxing, and supports the body to heal.
The oils used in this therapeutic massage are based on the season and your health condition. It is extremely nourishing for individuals who have dryness, chronic stress, tension anxiety or insomnia. Abhyanga can be utilized with other therapies to help with multiple conditions.
Ayurvedic traditional oils are made with a base of sesame, sunflower or coconut and are infused with many medicinal herbs, and may have cows milk, goats, milk, beeswax or castor oil. The skin being the largest organ it is very important to provide the proper nourishment as well as utilize the skin’s ability to bring medicinal herbs into the body through the blood stream down to the bodies deepest layers of tissues. Not only does it strengthen the skin and improve color and texture, but it also tones muscles and prevents stress and injury.
Traditionally abhyanga is a synchronized massage with two therapists, applying warm oil in rhythmic strokes, inducing a calm state as the herbal medicine through the oil absorbs gently into the system. We provide both single and tandem sessions.
Each session begins with an assessment to identify each individuals concerns within their own unique physiological constitution, considering the season, their current elemental balance, and acute or chronic pain conditions.
You can also experience the benefits of this daily self-care practice at home. In a consultation you can be given instructions of which oils to use, how to apply and how often.
